Background
Mr. Amal Nanayakkara is a distinguished hospitality professional with over 35 years of extensive experience in hotel operations, human resource development, and hospitality training. Over the course of his career, he has held several senior leadership positions within Sri Lanka’s leading hotel groups, demonstrating exceptional expertise in operational management, staff development, and service excellence.
He served as Group General Manager – Training & Development at Aitken Spence Hotels and as General Manager of Heritance Kandalama, one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic eco-luxury resorts. In these roles, he played a key role in strengthening operational standards, developing talent, and shaping leadership capabilities within the hospitality sector.
Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Nanayakkara has also held senior appointments including HR Director, Director of HR Development and Training, and General Manager at renowned establishments such as Marino Beach Hotel, Galle Face Hotel, and properties managed by Aitken Spence Hotel Management. His work has significantly contributed to building high-performing teams and maintaining world-class hospitality standards.
In addition to his corporate leadership roles, Mr. Nanayakkara has contributed to the broader development of Sri Lanka’s tourism industry. He served as an Executive Member of the Hotel Classification Committee of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), supporting the establishment and maintenance of national hotel quality standards.
Currently, he continues to contribute to the industry as a visiting lecturer and hospitality consultant, mentoring and guiding the next generation of hospitality professionals while sharing his wealth of industry knowledge and leadership experience.
